The
work of Austin artist, Brian Frisbie, seamlessly
combines the tenent of form and function. Brian's
pieces incorporate industrial processes and
organic materials such as steel, concrete and
spalted
pecan to create furniture that is both useful
and able to stand alone as minimalist sculpture.
Inspired by the simple expression of common
geometric forms, Frisbie's most recent pieces
have evolved
into cantilevered works that are at once massive
and delicate, balanced and asymmetrical, graceful
and resilient. They resemble buildings one
would want to inhabit and with addition of partner
Barbara Frisbie's miniature landscapes in the
nooks and crannies, the pieces become ecosystems
unto themselves. The addition of architectural,
specimen plants breathes life and warmth into
modernism. The combination of these two talents
results in work that creates a space rather
than
simply occupying it.
